The Jongema's house destroyed after the Flood

 

As many have been attentive to the current tragic Flooding of the Sumas Prairie, as explained in the attached video, my Parent's house was located right in heart of the devastation. As the worst of the flood hit, myself and my dog, Bowser, were trapped inside my Parent's house, trying to escape before anything got worse. Things went from bad to worse as the water's destructive path rose many feet, submerging most of the house and damaging most of the contents inside. My dog and I were able to escape through my bedroom window before water levels got too high, pushing us to the rooftop, and were escorted safely by the Coquitlam Fire Department via lifeboat. The immediate matters of life were address and taken care of properly.. however, now the true impact of loss is being assessed.

 

Sadly, their insurance policy does not cover an event of this massive magnitude. My parents have owned this house for 25+ years, putting blood, sweat & tears into running a hobby farm, a mechanical repair facility, musical productions, and supporting other farmers with the processing of making haybales... but most importantly the very foundation of their LIVES. Decades of solid memories surrounding this cute & cozy countryside house was the escape & retreat for dozens of family & friends. It was away from the city. It was the kind of house you'd dream to go to to get away from stressors and business. It was held in the hearts of many from the years of beautiful gatherings and backyard celebrations. It is now part of the wreckage of the 2021 Sumas Prairie flooding. Among the destroyed items are multiple vehicles, sentimental irreplaceable family items, household appliances, entire bedrooms, the list goes on..

 

My parents were away from their house, enjoying a well deserved vacation in Hawaii while this happened. Any homeowner can relate to the severe anguish of witnessing your home be destroyed by nature as you are helpless from afar. Any sort of donation would be held dearly to our hearts to help my Parents through this devastating hammer-blow of natural disaster.
