Help the Johnstone and Colon Families in Crisis
Donation protected
Hi Everyone, my name is Bonnie (Mema) and I am writing to you in hope that you can help keep medical expenses down, and monthly expenses paid for the Johnstone, Colon families. Back on Oct 7th, Helen Johnstone had developed a subarachnoid aneurysm that burst causing her to have a severe stroke. She was alone, at home in NC, when it happened. Her daughter Helena (Colon) called 911 from PA to have them do a wellness check on her. She was found incapacitated and rushed to the hospital where they determined she was having a stroke. The hospital was not equipped for trauma of this magnitude, so they flew her via helicopter to Wilmington, NC for medical treatment. Helena and her sister Theresa dropped everything and drove through the night to be by their mom's side. They had to leave their jobs and their families behind to get to their mom. Helen was given a very grave prognosis. The doctors were unsure she was going to make it through the next 24 hours. She underwent immediate surgery to stop the bleed, but the bleed was very bad and there was a lot of damage. The doctors stated that she had a minimal chance of survival and if she did, she would most likely be severely disabled. Time would be the factor. Family and friends prayed very hard for her to recover from this devastating illness. As a result of many continued prayers, Helen made it through. She was paralyzed on her right side from the stroke and her ability to speak was affected. With continued prayers, that has come back to her as well. She still has a long road to recovery, but the doctors are now optimistic. They are shocked at the complete turnaround. They said it is nothing short of a miracle since they were certain she would be at least severely disabled. She is still in the ICU in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC, but they hope to move her to the stroke floor soon. She did undergo a second surgery to see how much damage there was and where the damage was in her brain. They found 5 very small areas that were affected and said over time they would heal.
This has been a very stressful time for 3 families. Helena and Theresa both are not getting paid from their jobs while down in NC, and Helen's medical expenses are starting to add up. I am asking for your help to keep these ladies and their families from exhausting every penny they have to keep them afloat. Please consider donating to them and their families. Every dollar counts and any amount is appreciated.
I will continue to post updates as I get more information. I will also be taking the grandkids down to see their grandmother. Hopefully, seeing her 2 grandchildren will help her fight to get better. If you would like any further information, please contact me and I can answer any questions you may have. Please keep contact to the family to a minimum as they are dealing with a lot right now and trying to focus on their mom. My number is [phone redacted]. Please text me and I will call you back. I don't answer calls from numbers I don't know. Hold your family close, and don't forget to tell them you love them. You never know when things could go terribly wrong!
Thank you and God bless!!
