Help The Johnson’s rebuild from hurricane Ida

Hurricane Ida terrified our family as floodwaters quickly rose on the Neshanic River in Ringoes NJ. My grandmother was up to her knees in rising river water, and my bedridden grandfather was unable to move to higher ground. We feared the worst. No one could get to them, and they could not escape.

After 6+ hours of panic, they were finally rescued. Their home, however, was significantly damaged. Most of their furniture, appliances, and household items were ruined, along with the majority of their personal items. Their home is uninhabitable at this time; their SUV was totaled, as it was completely submerged in water. Their home will need to be completely gutted for them to live in it again.

Anyone that knows my grandmother, “Gea” Rita Johnson, knows she is the most kind hearted, nurturing person there is. She has dedicated her life to taking care of everyone she knows. This includes my grandfather, Ray, who is 100% disabled. Ray is a Vietnam Veteran who was honorably discharged and received numerous military service medals. In 2001, he suffered a massive heart attack and stroke that left him paralyzed. Ever since, my grandmother has been caring for him. Because of Ray’s health condition, he is now staying in a hospital. We are still trying to determine where he will be able to stay while their home is repaired. Needless to say, after being inseparable for 24 years, the time apart has been very difficult for both of my grandparents.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like insurance will be helping them much - if at all, and they need their home back. Please make a donation to help them. They are the type of people who offer help to anyone in need, and now it’s our turn to help them.
