Hi, my name is Keely and I'm fundraising for our family of 5. We are currently technically homeless. We are living in a one-bed motel at Motel 6 (the only one we could afford at the time) in Corona, CA, and our funds have officially run out. We have been in this motel since January, waiting for housing through USVETS for the past 3 months and still haven’t received any updates on our case. Charles (Buster, as many of you know him) is currently a full-time student at Cal Poly Pomona and also works part-time when he is able to. He stays up all night trying to study and do homework and watches the kids when I am doing my schoolwork. Buster has maxed out his student loans to cover our stay at the motel we are currently at. However, even with the help of food banks and parents, we aren’t able to cover any more nights here and will be left to sleep in our car after Monday. I have tried selling things to help cover expenses but haven’t been successful in that, and my military paycheck isn’t much; it mainly covers our monthly car payment. Buster only gets paid every other week, and that helps a little, but with the limited hours he’s able to work, it’s not much. I am currently searching for another job and have applied to several locations and will continue to try to get work, but in the meantime, we are asking for any help. Even if you're only able to share our GoFundMe, anything helps and is truly appreciated!
The money will be used for:
• Hotel until housing becomes available
• Food for the family
• Clothing, shoes, socks, and basic needs like shampoo, body wash, and diapers
• Insurance and gas for our car
I am raising money for our family so we can afford to continue to stay in our current hotel until USVETS is able to help us with housing. The plan is to get permanent housing, and in the meantime, keep our kids safe in a motel. With your donations, we will be able to stay in a motel. It is roughly $464 per week at Motel 6. Our family has already looked into shelters and shared housing until we get help. However, most shelters are full, and the two shelters that aren’t would require our family to be separated (me with the kids in one and Buster at a different one), and we do not want to be separated.
The issue:
• Shelters are at capacity
• Shelters don’t regularly accept families; most are women and children shelters or just men.
I would really appreciate any help to keep our family off the streets and the kids fed and safe.
Currently, our motel room is booked until Monday at 11 am. We don’t have anywhere to go after that aside from sleeping in our car.
Any help is very appreciated! Thank you for all your support.
If anyone can help with any advice as well as group homes, shelters, or other resources to help our family stay together, it would be greatly appreciated!
- Sincerely,
The Johnson Family
