With broken hearts, our family is asking for support for my sister and her husband after the devastating loss of their precious son, Daylen.

During pregnancy, Daylen was diagnosed with a rare genetic kidney disease called autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD). Although his diagnosis was serious, his doctors were optimistic that his lungs would be developed enough to give him a chance at treatment after birth. Through months of specialist appointments, countless prayers, and unwavering hope, they prepared with so much love to welcome their sweet baby boy.

After he was born, it became clear that Daylen’s lungs were far more underdeveloped than anyone had anticipated because his condition had prevented his kidneys from producing enough amniotic fluid during pregnancy. Despite the incredible efforts of his medical team, his body could not overcome these challenges.

In the precious moments they were given together, Daylen was held in the loving arms of his mom and dad, surrounded by family, covered in prayers, and deeply loved. Though his time on earth was brief, he knew nothing but love.

No parent should ever have to experience the loss of a child. As they walk through unimaginable grief, they are also facing unexpected expenses, including medical bills, funeral and memorial costs, and time away from work as they begin to heal.
