the Jihanians are a family of 4 living in Pasadena, CA. On Wednesday, January 8th, they lost their home in the Los Angeles fires. Levon, the father, is a professional artist and graphic designer and Lila, the mother, works from home. They have two daughters, Olympia (13) and Romana (7). Both parents need personal living space to earn income. In one afternoon, this horrifying tragedy has upended all sense of place and stability, all the joy and memory lived through in their home, as well as completely disrupted all the simple, practical motions of their daily lives. For the Jihanians, and the thousands of families like them, a house burnt to its foundations leaves only fragile uncertainty behind in its wake.
Lila, Levon, Olympia and Romana need stable and consistent housing, not just shelter. Every family, and every person, affected by this disaster in such a way --extreme, immediate, stark and sudden loss, should receive as much.
Sadly, in the United States, both corporate insurance and the social welfare state exist to ignore or aggressively deny the basic needs of those forced to interface with them in the aftermath of a disaster.
I am a family member on the east coast raising this money to cover:
-the costs of moving into a new home , first and last + security
-the cost of living while staying with friends and family/ attempting to maintain income to support themselves and their daughters
-some $ to go towards furnishing new living space / replacing all lost home things--furniture , devices , kitchen , clothing, everything
like so so many people today, this family has lost everything but their lives. please make a small donation, fill up their cup, please help this year end better than it has started!
