Late this summer, the Jamison family found out that their youngest son Charlie (age 4) would have to have yet another open heart surgery in November as a part of his ongoing care for the congenital heart defect that he was born with. While the Jamison's always knew that more surgeries would be a part of Charlie's life, this most recent one was needed sooner than expected, and has required Sara and Brent to travel with Charlie to Boston Children's Hospital to receive the best care possible. Leaving their older son Henry in the care of grandparents in Sioux Falls, Sara and Brent have been in Boston for the necessary testing and surgery preparations since 11/12, and Charlie will go into surgery on Wednesday morning (11/19). They expect that recovery will take another 7-10 days before Charlie will be able to travel home.

Both long-time retail workers, Sara and Brent are taking time away and unpaid leave during the peak holiday retail season, and have incurred travel expenses along the way. Many people have asked how they can support the Jamison family during this time, so I began this campaign to help with the financial burden of their trip, and to share a couple of updates with anyone following their journey.

Sara is an incredibly selfless human who gives her whole heart to her family as well as her community. Through working with her at Terra Shepherd, I have witnessed her people-first approach in so many ways -- from fundraisers for local groups doing good work in our community, to consistently showing up and navigating the many ups and downs of small business ownership with so much compassion and intention.
