Help the IAYC to buy new equipment

The International Astronomical Youth Camp (IAYC) is a three-week long summer research camp aiming to promote the knowledge of astronomy and related sciences in a unique and international atmosphere. Since the first camp in 1969, the IAYC has taken place in a different location in Europe each year. Around 65 people come together from all over the world to live and work together on a project of their own choosing. Participants are 16–24 years old and all share a common interest: astronomy.
The IAYC is run by an international team of young scientists, organised by the non-profit International Workshop for Astronomy e.V.

The IAYC 2026 will take place in Spain, in a region with some of the darkest skies in Europe and pristine observing conditions. This camp will be special in two regards: we will celebrate the 60th IAYC, and we will have the privilege of observing a total solar eclipse.

Sadly, our observing equipment is more than a decade old and many components are no longer in working order. Due an unprecedented increase in camp running costs we have had to prioritise keeping the participation fee as low as possible, in order to make the camp accessible to as many people as possible. Therefore, aside from critical replacements, we have been unable to meaningfully invest in our equipment for nearly 10 years.

This leaves us in a situation where we desperately need to raise funds to purchase new telescopes, tracking mounts, tripods, batteries, and other equipment. With your support, we can teach generations of participants how to use telescopes, take beautiful astro-photos, and learn valuable skills that prepare them for a career in scientific research. Most importantly, they will be able to experience the full magic of the IAYC.

We would therefore be grateful if you could support us and our future participants with a small donation!

A: We would love to discuss this possibility with you! We've provided a list of what we need below, organised by urgency. Please get in touch if you think you can help us in this way.

Q: What other funding sources are you looking into?
A: We're actively seeking partnerships and stipends from organisations and foundations that help non-profits like IWA. The funds raised from our donorbox page are also being diverted into equipment funding this year.
