Their story
My brother Darren’s family is currently recovering from a horrific trauma. Late in June, while Darren was working his daytime job, a man forced his way into the family home and attacked his wife, Veronica, while four of their kids were inside. Their oldest son, Adam, heard his mom’s screams and hobbled to her aid on a broken leg and defended his mother until the intruder fled. Thankfully, the intruder was arrested shortly thereafter. Our understanding is he has a criminal history and could be facing ample time in prison.
The physical wounds for the Hunter family are minimal thanks to Adam’s heroics, but the emotional and mental wounds are deep. Due to safety concerns and the need for immediate childcare as Veronica battles PTSD, they fled their home in California and are currently living in the Idahome I share with my husband and two young children, with multiple relatives living nearby.
What now?
Many close friends and family have asked how they can help. I’ve created this account for that purpose. Donations will help this family with their unmet needs in this time of crisis.
As I write this, the kids think I’m finally taking time to rest. Adam, a teenager, popped out of his new room and offered to cook grilled cheese for family dinner while the other cousins entertain my 2- and 4-year olds. I think Veronica said it best when she said, speaking of her children, “I’m glad the attacker didn’t take their sparkle.”
Thank you, thank you, and thank you again for considering support of this sweet family.
