***UPDATES ARE DOWN BELOW OUR STORY***
Please stand with the Hunsucker family as we help support my mom in this extremely tough journey she’s going through.
My mom has been on an incredible journey of resilience and strength over the past year, navigating multiple hospitalizations and rehab stints since March 2024, when she underwent her first partial foot amputation due to diabetes. Shortly after, she showed remarkable courage in the face of adversity, undergoing another surgery to amputate her other foot as well as her half of her leg. While recovering, she began to develop “pressure wounds” that would eventually become a significant challenge to heal. Despite the uncertainty, her medical team persevered, and recently, she was diagnosed with Calciphylaxis disease, an extremely rare condition that, although incurable, can be managed to slow its progression. This disease causes a person to easily get wounds and they heal extremely slow, if at all. The wounds remain a top priority, as they can be extremely painful and potentially life-threatening if infected. Currently, my mom is facing this challenge head-on, with a total of 8 wounds right now, including a few that require extra special attention. She’s now back home, relying on a feeding tube and requiring around-the-clock care. Nurses visit a couple of times a week, while my dad and I provide dedicated care and support, ensuring she receives the best possible care. My brothers are also pitching in around the clock, renovating our home to create a more spacious and comfortable environment for her recovery. Throughout this journey, my dad has been a rock, sacrificing his work life while not being able to work to be by my mom’s side every step of the way. Our family is grateful for any support, whether it’s a donation to help with care, past medical bills, medical supplies, and equipment, assistance with home renovations, a kind word, or a prayer. Sharing this GoFundMe would also mean the world to us. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for being part of my mom’s journey.
I will include my Venmo for those who would like to donate there vs here.
