Help the Hunnicutt's
Hello, my name is Mandy and I'm starting a GoFund me page for The Hunnicutt's. We all have either been impacted by covid-19 or know a family that has been impacted. The last year and a half has not been easy on us as a society. Unfortunately, the Hunnicutt's have now been impacted by Covid-19 starting with the kids back in July.
Brooke started cold type symptoms and fatigue on July 30th. It wasn’t until the little boys and Celia got symptoms on Monday, August 2nd, that they knew they had Covid. They had been pretty fortunate the last year and a half to not get sick, in fact the last time Celia felt that sick was January of 2020. By the time Celia and the boys got it, Brooke was fine. Tod and Grey took tests on Tuesday but they had to wait for the results to come in because they went to the doctor. In the meantime, Celia took a rapid test that was positive. When the results came back from Tod and Greyson's test, Tod's was negative and Grey's was positive but they didn’t get their results until four days later. By that point, Tod started symptoms on Thursday, August 5th and seemed to be doing ok. Hailey started symptoms on Thursday, August 12th and by then Tod was doing worse. Celia took him to Loma Linda Murrieta ER that Sunday night and dropped him off because she couldn’t stay since she had to watch the kids. They admitted him that night. He was diagnosed with Covid pneumonia and a few days later with pulmonary edema. Celia saw him the next day and he looked ok but oxygen stats went down when he spoke to her so she left. She wasn’t allowed back to visit him the rest of the week. She spent those five days on the phone day and night trying to get information, contacting doctors, updating family, and even trying to get him transferred to a transplant hospital. He finally got a room on Friday, August 20th, five days after being admitted. Celia was allowed to see him one time a day for 30 minutes with a negative Covid test within 72 hours. When she got there at 10:30, she realized no one had fed him his breakfast so she got special permission to feed him all meals. Later that night, they almost called a code on him. He was so disoriented that he pulled off his mask. His oxygen stats were 25 and he was blue. They put a twenty-four hour sitter on him and Celia also became his sitter. Celia has been staying at the hospital night and day except to take her Covid test until the night of Monday, August 23rd when a mandate came out that there were no overnight visitors. Celia went home for two nights back to back and both times when she came back in, he was worse because he can't care for himself in any way while sitting in a hospital bed. She finally got an unofficial approval to stay 24 hours a day. The kids have been with friends and family since he got a room. His oxygen requirements are 100% of 40 liters today. He is having an echo done later because the X-ray shows congestive heart failure. His kidney thankfully looks ok at this point. They have been at the hospital for sixteen days and were told today that it’s probably going to be another month.
Unfortunately since Celia got sick on August 2nd, she has not been able to work since she has been helping take care of Tod at the hospital and it is a full time job. When Celia was forced to not be with him, his anxiety would increase and it was making his recovery more difficult. The medical staff has seen that when Celia is around, he is calmer.
I'm asking for help for their expenses. Tod has a long road to recovery ahead and the doctors are keeping him for a month, at least. When he is able to return home, the recovery will still be going on for him. If you know Tod, you know he does not like to ask for help. I asked Celia if I could start this page for them because they have given a lot to their community, friends, family, and loved ones. It's our turn to take care of the Hunnicutt's. Any amount you can donate will be appreciated and a blessing from God for them. Celia has shown immense strength during this time and says it's all thanks to God and her faith. She is carrying the burden of the household on her shoulders and we know that Tod doesn't like to see her with that burden. He wants to be able to get back to work and help ease the burden but right now he needs to stay in the hospital and heal himself so he can be there for his family. Again, thank you for any amount you are able to donate to help Tod, Celia, Hailey, Brooke, Greyson, and Roman during this time of need.
