Urgent Support Needed for Three Siblings Who Have Lost Both Parents
In a matter of years, the lives of three siblings have been completely turned upside down.
Karianna (21), Melanie (19), and AJ (16) Horta have just lost their father, Gerardo “Chino” Horta. With his passing, they have now lost both of their parents. Their mother, Melissa Moody Horta, passed away in 2020 due to COVID, and now their father has unexpectedly passed away as well. Their father was their primary source of stability after losing their mother. In just a few short years, these siblings have become parentless and have endured unimaginable loss.
Despite their grief, all three siblings are doing their best to move forward. Karianna and Melanie are attending Lee College full-time while working part-time jobs. AJ is a junior at Goose Creek Memorial High School and is also working part-time. All three are trying to stay focused on school and work while grieving the only parents they've ever known. They are strong, responsible, and determined, yet facing circumstances no young person should have to face.
While extended family is stepping in with love and support, this sudden loss brings immediate and overwhelming financial burdens, including funeral expenses, housing needs, daily living costs, and ongoing education expenses. The families helping care for them are now also facing significant and unplanned financial strain as they work to keep these siblings safe, housed, and supported. Funds raised will be used to cover these urgent needs and help ensure the siblings can remain focused on their education. This GoFundMe has been organized with the family's permission, and all funds will go directly to them.
They are asking for immediate help. Every donation—no matter the size—will go directly toward providing stability and support for these three young people and the family members caring for them during this heartbreaking time. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page—sometimes spreading the word is just as powerful as giving. Thank you for stepping in when it matters most.
