Help the Honls

Thank you all for taking the time to check out the Go Fund Me for Emily and Kevin Honl! I have had the honor of getting to know the Honls more over the last couple years and the past few months have been quite the roller coaster! As you read the following details would you please take time to consider helping them out in any way you might be able to!

On June 29th Kevin and Emily were SO excited when they found out they were expecting their second baby!!! March of 2019, Gabriel was going to be a big brother!! But by mid August it became evident that this pregnancy was not going to have difficulties for Emily - at the 8 and 10 week gestational age ultrasounds Emily’s blood pressure was elevated. This was quite alarming as normally Emily has blood pressure in the low side of normal and high blood pressure during pregnancy has major complications.

At her OB appointment at 16 weeks, Emily’s blood pressure was once again elevated. Her OB ordered multiple tests to try and figure out what was going on because this was unusual for Emily and so early in a pregnancy. They also asked Emily to check her blood pressure daily at home and keep a log. A return visit was scheduled 2 weeks later on October 3rd when Emily’s blood pressure was 180/113! Emily was immediately hospitalized at this point for observation. After her 24 hour stay in the hospital and numerous test by OB and various specialists - NO cause could be found for the elevated blood pressure!

Emily was sent home with no answers and oral blood pressure medication, But that evening her blood pressure spiked again! After calling on-call OB she was told to up the dose of medication - Doubling it! At 2:30 in the morning she woke with a severe headache that had her in tears. Tylenol was NOT touching the pain. At 8:00am she contacted her clinic and was seen that morning (October 5). Her OB doctor changed the medication in hopes to control the blood pressure and headaches, requesting that Emily NOT work and do as little as possible - INDEFINITELY!

The risks of High blood pressure could cause blood clots, stroke, heart attack or preeclampsia for Emily. During pregnancy, hypertension can prevent the placenta from getting enough blood. This can result in low birth weight, premature birth or low amniotic fluid. Due to all the risk factors, Emily will have monthly ultrasounds and be induced at 37 weeks and even then she still runs risks of premature birth. For health and safety of both Emily and Baby Doctors could deliver as early as 32 weeks. OB doctors walk a fine line as they attempt to control Emily’s blood pressure to not cause stress to the baby. A baby gets use to a mothers’ blood pressure - a serve spike or sudden drop can cause the baby distress!

At the re-check on October 12, Emily was told she will be off work until at least Oct 26 when her Doctor will re-consider and evaluate the current situation. Starting Oct 24 Emily is officially out of PTO and will be on an un-paid medical leave. This is causing considerable financial hardships for the family. Kevin and Emily both are employed outside of the house full-time, Gabriel gets Grandma time each day! Kevin has been working 70 hour weeks to try and catch up and prepare for the lack in income! Each day Emily is off work and unpaid it causes a $100 deficit in the families take home paycheck. With insurance such as it is, medical bills have been pouring in - Mortgage, car payments, utilities, gas and food alone rely on both incomes! Please consider supporting the Honls in this extremely stressful and difficult time! Any donation - big or small - will make a huge impact on this family! Please share this with your friends and family to help rally around Honl’s, as they await the arrival of their bundle of joy in mid February!
