Help the Holiday Kittens Who Came in From the Cold

Three eight week kittens had nowhere to go.

Kitten season
does continue into the fall and winter. A little mama, named Faith, had her three kittens in late October, under a porch on the Northside of Pittsburgh. The homeowner found them, contacted local rescues, and did everything right - they trapped Mama and the three kits, got them to the veterinary clinic. They have shelters and a plan for Mama.

What they did not have was a place to care for the eight week old kittens to socialize them, fatten them up, and follow up on needed veterinary care. So the kittens were ear tipped & spayed/neutered at a very tender age in case they had to be released outside.

But we found a solution.

So the kittens traveled a few blocks down the street to be fostered by us. They literally came in to our house at 9:30 PM on a dark rainy Friday night (the 13th) and took up residence in our kitten room aka the bathroom.

Our wonderful neigbor Tara had paid for all of the veterinary care out of pocket - four cats fully vetted, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, etc. And because she did that and because we offered a foster home, Pittsburgh CAT was able to take on these three to make sure they have the very best start to their new lives.

None of us - homeowners, Tara, foster home, Pittsburgh CAT - was expecting to have these little holiday visitors or expenses. We are reaching out to the community to ask for financial help to cover their vet and food bills until they are ready for adoption.

We temporarily named them Maisel, Susie Myerson, and Sophie Lennon. They are very wee - just a little over 2 lbs right now. They are showing symptoms of needing some supplements to clear up their eyes and noses. They will need special food to help them bulk up. Hopefully, their only veterinary needs will be booster shots.

Nope, no Christmas themed names - we opted for a unique theme that you may recognize.

They are all FIV, FLev negative, spayed/neutered, heartworm free, have their first round of shots and are being treated for worms. Mama has had all of those too.

So our little holiday trio could use some help to recover from a rough, but determined start. Their Mama was amazing, keeping them safe and warm and keeping herself safe, too.

We just raised $2500 to buy TNR supplies for Northside cat ladies. And that will hopefully help us get more cats spayed and neutered to reduce unwanted kittens from being born. I know you gave already, but if you can give a bit more to help these little ones who did not ask to be born under a porch in the winter you will be doing a big kindness.

Funds will be used to offset their vet fees, purchase food and supplies moving forward, and cover any unexpected veterinary costs.

They will be quarantined for 2 weeks in our bathroom - Dec 27.

Then they will begin socialization with our house pets by spending time in the kitten tent in our living room.

The first or second full week of January, they will receive a vaccination booster and be listed for adoption if all goes well.
