Hi, my name is Kathy McCarty-Green, and I’m a longtime friend and former downstairs neighbor of Laura and James Holcomb. I’m heartbroken to share that on Saturday, July 5th, the Holcomb family lost their apartment in a devastating fire in Colchester, CT.
While Laura, James, and their two children thankfully made it out safely, they tragically lost everything they owned — including all of their beloved cats. Their hearts are shattered, and they’re now faced with the unimaginable task of starting over from nothing.
Laura is a beloved school bus driver in the Colchester community, known for her warmth and care toward every child who rides with her. She and her family have always given so much love: to their neighbors, their animals, and their community.
Now they need our help.
We’re hoping to raise $20,000 to help the Holcombs rebuild their lives. Funds will go toward:
- Clothing and daily essentials for the whole family
- Furniture and household items to start over in a new home
- Pet-related expenses (memorials for their cats, and supplies for the potential surviving pets)
- Grief and trauma support for the children and family
- A financial cushion to help them recover and regain stability
