My cousin is the devoted parent of four children, including two teenage sons with severe cerebral palsy. These boys were born as part of a set of triplets at only 24 weeks gestation. Their sister Mia, who completed the trio, sadly passed away at birth and is now in heaven. The two boys have faced significant challenges since birth and rely on wheelchairs for mobility. Every day, simple activities like going to school, attending medical appointments, going to church, or enjoying family outings become a major challenge. The family’s current van is not wheelchair accessible, so each trip requires physically lifting both boys—who are now 16 and nearly adult-sized—into the vehicle, as well as loading their heavy wheelchairs. This process is not only physically demanding and time-consuming, but it also means they can only leave home when at least two adults are available to help.
A wheelchair accessible van would be truly life-changing for my cousin’s family. It would make transportation safer and easier, allowing the boys to get to school, church, and medical appointments without the exhausting lifting and planning. Most importantly, it would give them the freedom to enjoy more outings and experiences together as a family, without the constant worry and physical strain.
Please consider supporting the Hite family to improve their quality of life. Your generosity will help them gain the independence and opportunities they deserve, and every contribution brings them one step closer to a brighter, more accessible future.
