Help the Historic Star Sound Spectacular
Donation protected
From 1949 through 2021, a single RCA speaker provided sound for the movies at the Star. Last month, this workhorse was finally retired after 72 years of service!
Today's movie sound is created on multiple channels designed for surround-sound theatres. Many of you (kindly of course) confided that you have been wishing for a sound upgrade for ages. So, we brought in an expert. We acquired a single (ever so slightly less retro) Altec speaker. This has already improved the mono-sound from behind the movie screen. But, this is only a temporary bridge while we work to install a modern surround-sound system.
Our Sound Engineer tells us that prices are increasing rapidly and delivery of equipment is taking many months. We have been advised to act now.
With your help, we will both install a new surround sound system and also re-upholster the acoustical wall fabrics that cannot be salvaged from the water damage sustained over decades.
In order to accomplish this, we need funding in place so that we can order the sound equipment right away.
From Summer movie parties for the kiddos with live performances by the Young Ukes, to the First Annual Berkeley Springs Film Festival... from sacred films for the holidays and films that honor our veterans to shows that welcome our LGBTQ+ allies, this Old Girl has a Mission to serve our entire community.
We need your help to prepare the Star for her next century of gatherings for movies, performing arts, speakers, education, music and more.
For yourself, for your neighbors, for the Legacy of the Star, we thank you so much for your contribution,
Paul & Trey, on behalf of the Historic Star Theatre, Berkeley Springs, West Virginia
