We've become accustomed to seeing news stories like this. You just never expect it to happen to your own family.
It was a sunny Spring morning in Perth on Friday, 16 October 2020. Our Mum was in the shower getting ready to have friends over. Lunch was already cooked and waiting on the kitchen bench. That's when a freak electrical fire took hold in the house, which our brother was powerless to fight. He ran screaming to warn Mum, who only had time to slip into a bathrobe and grab her phone before fleeing. In shock, she watched her home of twenty years go up in flames, and all her worldly possessions along with it. Our Dad arrived home soon afterwards, as our brother was taken away in an ambulance with minor burns and smoke inhalation.
Thankfully everyone is back in good physical health, but now we're worried for our parents' and brother's mental and emotional wellbeing, having lost everything and having to start all over again from scratch. Our ageing parents are kind, loving and wonderful people, and it breaks our heart to see them face this kind of hardship. We want nothing more than for them to have a peaceful and comfortable retirement.
While insurance will cover the major things, there will still be a lot of additional expenses as our parents set about rebuilding their lives. As their children who have received a lifetime of love and support from them, setting up this crowdfunding page for our parents is the least we can do in their hour of need. Please consider donating generously to help them bounce back from this tragedy and have the life they deserve.
Any amount you can donate, no matter how small, would be hugely appreciated.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Bill & Neddie's loving children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren
