On December 16, we received a phone call that changed our lives forever.

We found out that our much-desired pregnancy we thought was healthy and developing normally was actually 91% likely to have a deadly trisomy known as Edwards Syndrome. Everything in our world changed quickly with that dreadful news. We hoped for the rare false positive or some other mistake but unfortunately two subsequent ultrasounds confirmed our worst fears: our baby, a son, was not developing normally. He was struggling with major defects that meant he would suffer and die, if he was even born alive.

Our son was born and died on January 2nd, at 14 weeks gestation. It has been the hardest and most traumatic experience of our lives. We are all in the thick of the worst grief there is: the loss of a child that was desperately wanted and loved.

As we’ve shared the news, everyone has asked, “How can I help?” And though both of us are typically the type to decline offers of help, the truth is that we really do need help right now.
