Help the helpers: Community Aid in Sderot
I met social worker Gonen Horel and his team in Sderot last year. He and his collective of social workers and teachers support the most vulnerable newcomers and under-served communities and work on peace projects in the Gaza envelope. Part of the Dror movement (https://www.drorisrael.org/) they work to empower children, women, elders and families.
Their goal day in and day out is cohesive and strong neighborhoods in which a wide range of residents are group members and act as neighborhood activists, uniting to deal with challenges, taking responsibility for their communities and creating change.
Hamas attacked their city and communities - slaughtering people in their apartments and on the street, abducting community members, and forcing terrified community members to hide in shelters for 2 days.
Today, tomorrow, and in the weeks ahead, Gonen and his team will be there to support emergency needs and to the work of rebuilding community with the most underserved and disadvantaged and rebuilding efforts towards peace.
I believe deeply in the power of community and mutual aid and collective impact. Please consider supporting this grassroots work that will reach the most vulnerable today.
