Help the Helm Family With Medical Bills

That face you see above this here text is S. She is 11 years old, the 3rd of 4 siblings, and the biggest ray of joy, sunshine, and Goofball Island energy you'll ever meet.

S suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Turner Syndrome, a chromosomal condition where a female is born with one X chromosome either partially or entirely missing. As a result, she is very short and small for her age, and she may never go into puberty. She will also likely never be able to bear children on her own. She is the bravest kid I've ever met - and I'm not just saying that because I'm her dad.

Currently, S is giving herself a daily injection of Norditropin, a hormone therapy to help her grow. The thing is, it's very expensive even with insurance...if insurance decides to approve it monthly. And there's also a shortage...if you don't have the money to pay for it out of pocket. Every month Stacie has to spend hours on the phone with the pharmacy, the doctor's office, and the insurance company trying to get the medication, get it approved, and hopefully get it to us before we run out, because they'll usually only approve or send us a 28-30 day supply at a time.

As I mentioned, it's very expensive (over $250/dose - $95k/year before insurance), so it feels completely out of reach for us to be able to get it on our own without help, which we hate asking for. But with other medical bills piling up from Stacie's Physical & Occupational therapy, dental costs for 3/4 of our kids, my knee, and trying to find in-network mental health support for our oldest (who is 14, and which could be a GoFundMe all it's own - again, it's available if you have the money to pay for it, but if you don't you end up on a 22-month waiting list - and we've already been trying for a year when we were told that just a couple weeks ago...sigh).

Even with both of us working and “okay” insurance, we're drowning in this, and just want to be able to help our kids get the medication and help they need. All the funds raised would go towards getting a backup 90-day (or more) supply of medications for S so we can have the peace of mind that she'll never miss a dose. Anything over would go towards getting our oldest the help they need for their needs. Honestly, at this point, any amount would help us start paying off the backlog if copays, insurance-adjusted pharmacy and medical bills, etc. The past 9 months have been crippling for us financially.

Thank you.
