Help the Hedgelayer
Donation protected
Hello,
I'm starting this 'gofundme' for both myself and my Dad, who is an avid countryman and a master hedgelayer of 30 years. He has taught me all I know of the traditional craft of plashing/pleaching, which he specialises in the Midlands style, teaching me what tools to use, both traditional and modern, the style in which to lay a hedge and various tips, tricks and some added folklore along the way.
This is an ancient past time, which thankfully seems to be receiving much more recognition these days, especially amongst the younger generations. It's sustainable and eco-friendly and helps support our native wildlife, whilst promoting awareness and preserving our hedgerows up and down the country.
Sadly, someone decided to case our property where the tools were kept and just before 21:00 on a Sunday broke into an arable field on a private estate, then broke into our garden and shed and stole his chainsaws and other garden machinery.
We were pursuing a claim though our insurance, but that's fallen flat. Therefore, I thought I would start a 'gofundme' page in the hope to appeal to the generous masses and try and recuperate some of our loss.
My Dad, like most trades people and self-employed workers, relies upon his tools for his livelihood and is currently tackling a couple of hedgelaying contracts, which have now come to a halt until the tools can be replaced. So, it's back to basics with the traditional hand tools for now, but both myself and my Dad need these power tools for both hedgelaying jobs and other gardening and landscaping works.
I can't say I enjoy asking people for money, as we all seem to be suffering across the board these days in some way, shape or form. However, if anyone reading this feels compelled to help, or is in a position to donate a small contribution with an aim to replace what was taken from us, we would both be unbelievably grateful.
Thanks for taking the time to read our story.
Best,
James
