Supporting Marcela: A Battle Against Time and Aggressive Cancer
Marcela Garcia stood as a pillar of strength and resilience for countless individuals who faced abuse, violence, and discrimination. Her unwavering dedication illuminated our community, constantly striving to create a safe and inclusive space for everyone.
Just a few months ago, Marcela was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, a malignancy that quickly spread throughout her body. Despite her brief time since diagnosis, she's endured over three weeks in hospital care. While her insurance has tried to keep up, the mounting medical expenses—spanning from in-depth examinations to rigorous radiation treatments—are quickly surpassing what her family can afford.
As we recount Marcela's journey, it's essential to acknowledge her significant contributions. Holding a degree in communication, she embarked on a commendable career in broadcasting, starting with hands-on roles and later gracing the screens as an evening news anchor for Channel 26 in El Paso, Texas. However, a deeper purpose beckoned her.
Leaving the world of broadcasting, Marcela channeled her energies into making meaningful changes in society. She initiated a citizenship program with a local non-profit, aiding in the naturalization of thousands. After a tenure in New York with Univision, Marcela returned to El Paso, marking the beginning of her own non-profit, the United Neighborhood Organization (UNO). Through UNO, she championed the cause of countless individuals and families, providing essential immigration support and safeguarding them from deportation.
Marcela Garcia was not just an advocate; she was a loving mother, a dedicated wife, and a beacon of hope for many. As we remember her indomitable spirit and countless contributions, we humbly reach out for your support. Let's come together to alleviate the looming medical debt that challenges her family, ensuring that Marcela's legacy of love and dedication remains untarnished.
