Help the Hartsons

Donation protected

UPDATE (MAY 26/18)

Bernie and I want to thank everyone who donated to this campaign. Thank you to those who reached out in person to the Hartson family to help in so many different ways. And thank you to those who didn't even know Barry and Rose, yet helped with contributions and words of support and compassion.

On May 13th, 2018, Rose passed away, after a very brave fight against the virus that attacked her body. She will be missed by so many people.

Bernie and I are now closing this GoFundMe. We transferred the funds to Barry today. The amount raised was $2450.00. After a fee, the final GoFundMe amount was $2372.04. We had two separate cash donations of $100.00 and $35.00, which we added to the total. The total amount forwarded to Barry was $2507.04 CDN.

Thank you again for showing love in a tangible way. Barry has expressed great appreciation, noting that the money will help pay down/pay off bills that have accumulated over the past months, while attention was diverted to more serious matters.

 You are all stars.

ORIGINAL POST:

In May of 2017, our friend, Barry Hartson, was diagnosed with cancer in his throat after discovering a growth that grew suddenly and rapidly. He started 7 weeks of chemo and radiation treatments; thankfully, the growth shrunk. The doctors have since said that he has no cancer, which is incredible news! Barry has, however, had a long road of recovery to regain his energy. He has only gone back to work in the past couple of weeks, giving him over 9 months off of work. His long-term disability benefits only cover 60% to 70% of his regular pay, which has created a huge financial burden. Rose, Barry's wife of 35+ years, has been working tirelessly to make ends meet.

On February 14 of this year, Rose became sick after eating at a local restaurant. Thinking she either had food poisoning or a flu, she waited it out, but after weeks of getting worse, she finally went to the doctors for tests. These tests confirmed her liver was not performing the way it should. March 20, she was admitted to the hospital. Doctors are still trying to get to the bottom of what is causing her severe symptoms, and they have come to no confident conclusions or treatment plans. Rose is extremely ill and in a lot of pain. Because of this, she has had to stop working.

With Rose now unable to work, following Barry's 9 months off, this latest medical challenge has increased their financial burden tremendously. This couple would be (and has been) the first to give to others in need. They are not asking for charity--but we, their friends, want to help them! Please consider giving to ease their financial burden, sharing this campaign on social media, and praying that the medical team gets to the bottom of this so Rose can be treated and healed.
