Meet Norma "Cookie" DeJesus, aka The Harlem Mermaid, Sea Queen of New York 2022, and Mermother of the New York pod.

A Harlem native, Cookie has been a cherished elder of the New York mermaid community for over a decade along with her MerWrangler husband Ralph. You may have spotted her at your local public pool, at Coney Island, or even on TV as she has been featured in multiple documentaries.

Having overcome childhood trauma, she found freedom and passion in the mermaid community and has since used her platform to uplift other survivors of domestic violence. She does not like to ask for help, which is why I'm organizing this fundraiser on her behalf with her consent.

Cookie was one of the first and warmest people to personally welcome me into the mermaid community. Unfortunately, Cookie currently faces urgent medical and nutrition expenses and she needs our help to alleviate her daily chronic back pain.
