My name is Braya and I am raising funds for the Hamki Family! The Hamkis are a tight-knit family of 7 with kids ranging from 4 to 26. In seeking refuge from war-torn Syria, the Hamkis were displaced in Jordan for about 10 years, waiting to be allowed refugee status somewhere safe. They finally received permission to settle in Chicago in August of 2023, when I met them and they welcomed me into their family.
Once a week, I spend the evening with the family, talking (via Google Translate), eating (Maysaa is the best cook you will ever meet), dancing, listening to music, laughing together, and grieving together.
Despite many setbacks and difficulties, the Hamkis have established a new home in the city of Chicago, with all but Maysaa, the mother, working jobs and the two younger kids attending school.
In the fall of 2024, both Maysaa and Feras, the oldest son, were in two separate car accidents. Both were uninjured, praise the Lord, but just recently debt collectors have come after the Hamkis concerning the accident. The family has been walking through many health crises and even though the whole family pitches in to cover expenses, they are unable to pay this. Would you please consider donating to help this incredible family?
Thank you!
