On the night of July 21st at approximately a little after 1am, our daughter Elleanor (4) awoke to find the electricity in her room was shut off. Being scared of the dark, she immediately alerted mom and dad. Within minutes, we soon found out an electrical fire had started above our kitchen in an inaccessible attic space and our East Green Bay house was engulfed in flames shortly after, quickly having just enough time to remove my husband, our two young kids and myself. We left behind 4 adult cats, 2 dogs, a bearded dragon, 2 rats and a fish tank to battle the flames. Luckily all animals were recovered in the hours after with no permanent health effects.
The initial estimated damage to our beautiful farmhouse has totaled over 75,000 with it expected to cost over 200,000 to fix. Our house has been condemned, is unlivable and is expected to take a 6 monthes - year to repair. Our kitchen and upstairs were a complete loss with water and smoke damage to every other room in the house including our living room, bathroom, master and kids bedrooms.
We are currently raising fund to cover the living costs of our family for both humans and fur babies and loss of income as we also operated a small local business (Jedi Woods) out of our home as our main source of income and we are not expected to be able to return to business until we are able to move back into our home in 2026.
We are Zachary (6) , Elleanor (4), Wally and Cindy. An amazing family of 4 who care for the worlds unwanted special needs / special case animals.
We own two dogs. Lexi and Binx. Lexi is a older boxer who loves a good snack, has a nose that can hunt and an incline need to get herself into trouble. Binx is a Saint Bernard who is reactive towards humans and other dogs and needs special care. They are being housed at a boarding facility in New Franken that can accommodate them long term and also deal with Binx's select reactivity problems. Unfortunately due to binxs issues, boarding will cost us around $1 800 a month alone, not including the cost of food, bones and other care products.
We also own 4 cats. Kylo - Who is a part feral senior citizen. Patches - Who came to us because she wasn't wanted when she caused too much trouble amd constant destruction in her past home. Obi Wan - Who was a stray in Michigan, who came to us a foster but unfortunately never left as he had a hard time acclimating to being a house cat and lastly Butters - A unique special needs cat. Butters was rescued from a home as a kitten with significant medical needs. Due to her constant treatment, she developed severe anxiety and mental health issues. She currently takes a daily oral medication and suffers from select incontinence issues and cannot appropriately use a liter box. We currently have no care for our cats and they are locked on our enclosed porch until further accommodations can be made. We expect to have significant trouble finding Butters a suitable home for the next few monthes accompanied by the financial burden of caring for them in other situations before being reunited later with us in 2026.
We currently are housed with family and have a hotel set for 2 weeks starting July 24th. We are also hoping money can help us get established in a limited rental for the next 9 monthes or so. We unfortunately still have to cover our mortgage and all bills on a house we can't live in while also covering rent and other needs in a rental.
We love our small Green Bay home and our Community and cannot wait to be back together as a complete family but unfortunately we do have a ton of needs before all of that can happen. We would be forever grateful for any help towards our financial recovery as we navigate the unthinkable loss of our house and the eventual repairs it will need.
