Help needed after tragic loss of my son and grandparents
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kayla. I am the mother of Kodah. On the 15th of February, my grandparents, Donald and Deborah Griffin, and two cousins, Maddie and Nina, along with my son, Kodah, left from my grandparents' home in Welch, West Virginia to go right up the road to get propane for their heater because their power was out due to the storm.
They made it two minutes up the road when they hit a spot of water that was deeper than they thought. They started moving towards the river and then hit a tree, which busted the window. The water started rushing in, and they began to sink. At this time, my grandmother told my grandfather to get my 2-year-old son, Kodah, and try to save him. The water was so cold and the current was so strong. My grandfather grabbed the baby through the window and held him over his head as long as he could, trying to keep him out of the water, and drowned in the process. My poor cousins and grandmother had to watch, knowing there was nothing they could've done. My cousins climbed out the window and were able to be rescued, but my grandmother was still in the truck as it went down.
This is a terrible tragedy that has scarred me and my family for life. I'm so grateful for my cousins to be here, but I'm beyond devastated and crushed by the death of my son and grandparents. To have to grieve my child and my grandparents, who raised me for the majority of my life, is a pain like no other. Everyone that's ever lost someone dear to them knows funeral and cremation expenses are very high, and we are having to do three at once. Also i live in fayetteville,nc . This happened in welch,wv so this will help with travel expenses and living costs while i’m here. If you are able to help with anything, even if it's $1, everything helps right now, and we are all very grateful and appreciative for all the help in this tragic time. Thank you.
