Saint Nicholas and Xenophon Greek School of Leicester is the community school of the Greek Orthodox Community of Leicester (registered with the Charity Commissioner of England and Wales, number: 519801). Our community-run Leicester Greek School supports children of Greek ethnic background to maintain their link with their heritage language and culture. The school is operated at the community building of Saint Nicholas and Xenophon church, and was founded in the 1980's by the Greek and Cypriot Communities of Leicester. The aim of the school is to teach the Modern Greek language, a variety of Greek and Cypriot music and dancing, and the history and culture of Greece and Cyprus. Various events of national and educational content are being organised by the community school and are directed towards the cultivation of national consciousness and the strengthening of the expatriates’ identity.
The school receives financial support from the Cyprus Educational Mission of the Republic of Cyprus, and benefits from the cost-free support of its many volunteers and supporters who donate their time. The remaining cost is currently ~£18,000 per year, with ~88% of this being the wages of our dedicated hourly-paid teachers, and ~12% being allocated to bills and supplies. To cover this cost, families having children at the school pay a fee, which unfortunately due to the relatively small school population, covers only ~77% of the cost, leaving the school with a significant discrepancy of over £4,000 every year.
Please support our campaign to raise funds for our community's school. Our target is to raise £5000 through GoFundMe, of which £2000 are for the school's immediate needs for this academic year and £3000 for next year's. Alongside other fundraising activities, will help our school raise enough to ensure smooth operation in the new school year starting in September 2023.
Our community school needs your support to continue operating smoothly in the next coming school year!
