Help The Gourmet House Repair Their Window

* UPDATE* ALL donations beyond the cost of replacing the window will be given to the Providence Youth Student Movement (www.prysm.us) who's good work includes elevating and protects AAPI communities. 

This week someone threw a socket from a socket wrench into the front window of neighborhood treasure, the Gourmet House.

We have no way of discerning whether this was an act of AAPI hate, but given the rise in crimes against AAPI during the past year, we cannot rule it out. 

We want to demonstrate how much this community business is loved and valued and help them out; it has been a brutal year for our beloved neighbors. They have weathered a pandemic, restrictive dining protocols, a leaking roof, a broken walk-in cooler amid all of the normal challenges facing a small business.

We want to be clear: the Gourmet House is not asking for help. Yet as their neighbor of many years, I think that the time is right to show them that people care and that they are seen. We are promising to make sure every penny raised is given to our friends to replace their window. Thank you for considering.

*UPDATE* Thank you so much for the outpouring of support. There have been some questions as to why insurance doesn't cover the vandalism and we just want to clarify that the estimated damage DOES NOT meet the deductible on the policy. Just as insurance doesn't cover all of the implications of losing a walk-n cooler, i.e. spoiled food and being forced to close for a few days, these are costs the business has to incur. We'd also like to note that since this GoFundMe has far exceeded our initial calculation, any donations beyond the cost of replacing the window will be given to the Providence Youth Student Movement (www.prysm.us) who's good work includes elevating and protects AAPI communities.
