The Goodman Family has been fighting for their son, Quinn, since he was diagnosed in September 2022 with fibrolamellar carcinoma, an ultra-rare liver cancer that affects only about 200 people worldwide each year. With no standard of care and little recognition even within the cancer community, Quinn has endured multiple surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy, only to be removed from the transplant list at the Mayo Clinic earlier this year because the cancer spread to his lungs.
But there is still a path forward.
Doctors at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, one of the only hospitals in the country willing to transplant fibrolamellar patients with metastasis, have agreed to perform a life-saving transplant using a living donor. Quinn’s 21-year-old sister is a perfect match and ready to donate 60 percent of her liver. The team has a plan to treat the cancer during and after surgery. However, Quinn's medical insurance has denied coverage and the hospital will not proceed without $295,000 paid upfront.
Time is critical. Quinn’s doctors warned his liver may not last the year.
This case is complex, but also hopeful. A transplant would mean the following:
-Allow Quinn’s body to function again, especially his immune system, spleen, and circulatory system
-End weekly invasive procedures and eliminate debilitating ascites
-Restore his platelet production, which has remained dangerously low (20–36) for over a year
-Allow continued cancer treatment, which has become impossible due to liver-related complications
-Restore dignity and function, improving strength, energy, and his ability to fight disease.
The Pete and Sarah Goodman family are incredibly grateful for all the love and support they have received since their son Quinn’s diagnosis of liver cancer.
As you can imagine, this has been a difficult journey for Quinn and his family and they need your help to make sure they have the necessary resources to overcome the hurdles placed before them.
Beyond the hospital and doctor transplant expenses, the transplant will also require Quinn and his family to relocate to Pittsburgh for up to 3 months while he recovers.
Your support—whether it's $1, $5, $50, or more—goes directly to helping Quinn and his family to fund the transplant, as well as housing and travel expenses for the family and any other needs the family encounters on this journey. This transplant can only happen with your help!
Thank you once again for your love, prayers, and support!
