HELP THE GOODEST BOY CEAS!!!

Donation protected
I am reaching out to all of my fellow pet lovers with much desperation and sadness. This is our boy Ceasar(yes we chose to spell it this way). He's a 7 year old, 75lb Doberman. He's our best friend, our protector, our fur baby. He's truly one of the goodest boys there is.

Over the last few years, Ceasar has been having some minor joint pains. Nothing some pain meds couldn't help. Every year, about 3 times a year, he would have just a day where he seemed like he was hurting a little from arthritis per our vet visits. But this was just normal joint pains. Nothing we thought was severe. Two days ago, Ceasar was his normal self. Running around, playing with our kiddos and other pets, being the good boy he always is. But yesterday took a turn for the worst. From about 8am in the morning to midnight, he went from being able to fully walk with no issues first thing in the morning, to his back end completely paralyzed. This all happened slowly throughout the entire day. I watched him begin to start hurting(assuming he was just having one of his normal flare up days), and then he started yelping, the yelping turned into screaming, and eventually his back end just gave out around 5:30pm after I brought him home from a vet visit. One day, this all happened unexpectedly within a single day.

I took him to the vet around 3:40pm. He was very dehydrated, had a slight fever, and was yelping in pain. The vet did x-rays, bloodwork, and a heartworm test. Blood and heartworm were perfectly normal. The x-rays came back showing a slipped disc in his neck. He walked out of this appointment pretty ok but struggled getting in the trunk of my SUV. As soon as I got home and got him out of the car is when those legs started to drag....

This all happened faster than I could have imagined. Last night, I took him to the ER around 10:30pm, which is where they diagnosed him with Schiffs Sherrington Syndrome. This is something completely new that I've never heard of. But apparently, it hits fast and aggressively causing lots of pain and sporadic paralysis. After speaking with the doctor, she stated that he needs surgery. A surgery we cannot fork out the money for considering we are literally in the middle of purchasing our first home...a home that was supposed to be our boy Ceasar's brand new paradise we've been wanting to get him since he was a pup. Everyone knows that when you are in the loan process of getting a home, you cannot spend large amounts of money nor do anything to affect your credit because it could very likely cost you the loan. We had several contracts that weren’t accepted due to the current aggressive market and finally had one ratified and if we were to break this contract we would lose the house and the earnest money put into it. The money we could have used for this surgery is also going to closing costs for the home.

Per this doctor, the surgery alone would cost somewhere between $8,000-$10,000. That does not include an MRI which would be about $2,500. Nor does it include any additional treatment he would need. This is apparently one of the most expensive surgical procedures for a dog because it involves the spine so not many facilities are able to do this...

That being said, we are overwhelmingly desperate to save our guy. We feel so trapped not being able to financially provide for him because of this home buying process. We want him to be able to enjoy the acreage we planned on giving him with this home purchase. He's only 6 years old. He was supposed to live another 5+ years with us. Per the video(which was taken this morning), he clearly wants to be here with us. The doctor doesn't think it's his time yet because he doesn't seem like he wants to give up. But she stated the surgery would be extremely beneficial and the only true way for our boy to get back to normal.

I don't expect to raise this money. But I'm sure all you other dog parents out there would do the same thing if you were in this situation. I don't wish this on any dog moms and dads out there. This is my call for help. If the money isn't raised, then it's not God's plan to keep him on this earth any longer. This is just the last option I have. And for those who may think putting him down would be best, if he was an older dog and showed signs of exhaustion and not really wanting to do much, that would be the decision we’d have to make. But Ceasar is still showing lots of life and signs of energy. He wants to get up but he can’t. So until he shows us he’s ready to give up, we won’t be giving up on him.

Thank you so much in advanced to anyone that helps out. You have no idea what this will mean to me, to my kids, and to my family.
