Help the Futrell Family in Their Time of Need

Calling all prayer warriors, friends, and family:

A lot of you have met and know my mom’s caregiver, DD (Danita Futrell). She and her husband, Patrick, are like family to us. They took care of my mom and my entire family in our greatest hours of need. Recently, Patrick was diagnosed with a genetic disease called MDA5 as well as interstitial lung disease (ILD).

MDA5 is a genetic disorder that causes the lungs to stick together (think of a wet balloon that sticks together). It is a rapidly progressing disease, and the prognosis is 6-9 months. The ILD’s prognosis is 3-5 years.

On top of this, Patrick’s right side of the heart is enlarged from the MDA5. The ILD is causing him symptoms similar to COPD and emphysema. He is on 1.5 liters of oxygen 24/7.

His specialty treatments require them to travel out-of-state to Duke Hospital every six months, which is NOT covered by their insurance. He is also undergoing physical therapy on his lungs.

Due to the illnesses, he’s unable to work. DD is currently working two jobs, 70+ hours a week to try and cover their mounting expenses.

On top of the severe medical issues, they’ve recently discovered black mold in their home, and they will need to relocate. They also support a son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter under their roof.

If you know the Futrells, you know their caring spirits and unlimited generosity. I’ve never met a more genuinely kind and giving couple. They are the first people to stand up and help others around them, no questions asked. Whether it’s paying it forward for total strangers, taking in family/friends to their own home in times of need, they will do it. Despite their own plight, they managed to fundraise and provide aid for the recent NC hurricanes. DD is a literal life-saver — saving a man’s life in the Wal-Mart parking lot…Google it!

All of this to say, we love them dearly and want to help alleviate some of the burden they are carrying. Any prayers and especially donations for the medical/travel/relocation expenses are greatly needed and appreciated.
