UPDATE: Darryl is awake! This is extremely good news, though there are multiple hurdles to jump and stages of recovery to get through, this is a very positive step. We will continue to keep everyone updated throughout the process. Thank you all for your help, donations and prayers.
Hey All, you may not know me but I'm the brother in Law of Darryl and brother to his wife Angela and only uncle to Aurora and Liam.
Here's the Story, with Angela at work boxing day Darryl was at home with Aurora and Liam, but was in bed for the 3rd day in a row with what was thought to be a debilitating migraine. If you know Darryl he is extremely stubborn and refused to go to hospital.
Aurora calls Angela at work and says Dad is screaming in pain and needs an ambulance. What Aurora didn't know, is that phone call would save her Dad's life.
Angela immediately leaves work, calls the ambulance and immediately starts driving home in the snow storm. Aunt Candace is en route to pick up Aurora and Liam and have the kids over for a sleepover.
When Darryl gets to the hospital, a CT scan is performed it shows Darryl has a massive brain bleed, he is sedated and is put into a medical coma.
If this isn't stressful enough, it's terrible weather and if you don't know, our dad was rushed to the Huntsville hospital in a snow storm and unfortunately he wasn't so fortunate to make it out alive. This obviously weighed on Angela and was odly reminiscent of what had the hardest point of her life.
The weather is so bad and Angela distraught, she is unable to drive down to Toronto or even home. Enter Darryl's sister Dawn, Brother-in-law Grant and nephew Logan to come to her rescue and get her to their house. Darryl's mom Joan and neice have been a rock for Angela during this time and have crucial in getting her mentally through this first week
Fast forward a day and Darryl is at Saint Michael's hospital in Toronto getting ready after test and prepping for brain surgery to help stop the aneurysm and the brain bleed.
Darryl is out of surgery and is showing signs of improvement with the testing. HOWEVER, he is still in a coma and hasn't be able to slip out of it and they don't know when that will be.
With any trauma to the brain, there is always permanent damage and whatever damage is done... Is done.
With Darryl being the breadwinner, funds will be tight and will only get tighter the more that this goes. Recovery can last months into a year in a bit until all motor skills are regained and some possibly not returning.
I'm asking for those who are able to Help, please help and donate what you can to help Ange, Darryl and the kids through this scary and unknown time.
I normally wouldn't ask for help, but they as a family will need it and any help will help alleviate some stress now and into the coming months.
Thank all of you kind souls who have taken the time to read this and those whom are able to donate to this family in need.
