I hate doing this but I'm not sure what else to do at this point.
My name is Sarah, I have two beautiful children Jax (9) and Willow (6)
Back in October I received a rental increase that was over 21% I was barely able to afford my $2,800 rent as it was, but my lovely landlord decided to increase me to a whopping $3,400 as of January 1st.
I tried to fight it, reached out to lawyers, begged and pleaded with my landlord to not make me chose between eating and my family, but alas, nothing became of it.
I've looked into moving, but we need a three bedroom (the kids absolutely can't share a room) and I'd be lucky to find anything under $4,000 a month. Let alone the cost of moving.
With no rent control on new builds (which are 95% of places) it wouldn't really matter anyway.
I've been on the wait list for a local co-op for over five years, I've been told with my recent abuse from my ex, that I've been bumped to the top of the list, but I still need someone to move out. (Who wants to move our of a $900 a month three bedroom in Oakville?!)
I was in a car accident two years ago, and with my eplipsy, I am fully unable to drive. So I need to stay within a city.
I also really need to stay in Oakville, as my mother is close, and is my only support. As well, my children have significant disabilities and need to stay close to their supports and need stability.
Due to their disabilities, staying in a shelter is not an option.
After paying my rent, it leaves me less than $1,000 a month for the three of us, take bills off of that, and it's not sustainable.
I am several months behind on bills and risking losing vital services as well. Just paying my rent this month is putting me in overdraft with no $$ for bills.
The father of my children is also between jobs right now, and informed me on the day of that he would be unable to pay me anything until February.
I've already sold off a fair amount of my personal possessions to try and get through Christmas, but I'm running out of things to sell.
At this point I'm just asking for help, even though it is hard to do.
Anything helps really, but at this point I just need to get out of the hole I'm in with bills and such.
I'm praying that in the new year, since I have a new insurance ajuster, that they will back pay me my benifits that they cut off close to a year ago.
I have tried any way physically possible to try to make extra money. I've done onlyfans, as well as start a clothing/custom printing business.
I'm unfortunately unable to continue doing that at this time to do my physical/mental health, but I do have a fair amount of pre made product that I did up for a craft show recently.
