As a good friend of Sumer and Kylie, I have witnessed for years how they have given selflessly to others through their work as a police officer and a registered nurse. Whether it's caring for others through the pandemic or dropping everything to adopt and raise their nephew, the Fikes have demonstrated what it means to truly live a life of service.
Recently, they have experienced an unfortunate amount of bad luck. They have been trying for several months to start their family—a process that is financially, emotionally, and time-consuming. Unfortunately, multiple rounds of IVF have been unsuccessful. At the same time, they experienced the unexpected loss of their beloved dog, Samara. While grieving both of these losses, Sumer's car now requires thousands of dollars in repairs to continue running. Last week, the brutal wind caused a tree to fall on their truck, which is likely going to be totaled. They are now left with one vehicle. In addition to this, Kylie and Sumer have both been sick with COVID, which has led to Sumer taking time off work unpaid.
While we hope this is the end of their bad luck, they are still facing a mountain of bills and months of work to get back on their feet—without including the financial burden of continuing to try to start their family.
If you are able, please consider donating to help the Fikes get through their financial struggles and start 2026 with hope.
