Savanah is 16 years old and has gone through way more in her short life then she should have to. At age 4, she was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, which caused her to lose her kidney. She endured a year of chemo and radiation. After thinking she was finally a survivor, we learned in June 2018 that the chemo she received all those years ago had caused tremendous damage to her heart. We thought we were taking her to the ER for gall bladder issues, but were told that her heart was only functioning at 15%! This was devastating to our ENTIRE family. Her doctors discussed with us what few options were available, and ultimately placed her on the heart transplant list. Thankfully, a month later, we received the call we had been praying for and she received her new heart. Her doctors explained to us that it would be a very bumpy first year, and boy they were not kidding! Since then we have discovered that the chemo and radiation have caused a variety of health issues for her. She has scoliosis and a fractured disk in her spine due to the long term side effects of the chemo and radiation. In the next few weeks, she will be starting epidural injections in her back to help ease the pain that she endures every single day. If those are not successful, then she will have to have another invasive surgery to correct it. The chemo also caused harm to her reproductive system. We just learned this past Monday, that she can never successfully carry a child. Her doctor has stopped her monthly cycles completely. Due to her current anti rejection medications that she will have to take for the rest of her life, she will never be able to carry a baby that will not end up with severe health issues of it's own. This too has been devastating not only to her, but to our entire family. She currently sees about 12 specialists for all of her chronic health issues and takes 12 medications twice a day every day including injections. I have had to take off a tremendous amount of work since June. I initially missed 3 and a half months of work while she was in the hospital, and have not worked a full week since returning to work in late September. Because of this, we have been put in a very stressful financial situation. Savanah currently goes to several doctors appointments each week. Please donate whatever you can afford to help us out.
