Help the families affected by La Palma Volcano

Hello I am 11 years old and I live in Ireland. I had a project in school of “ current events “ so I picked the La Palma volcano and went to La Palma to see it.

The active volcano is situated in the Canary Island, La Palma. It erupted in an area called Cumbre Vieja,a small part of the island In the south west. As of yet, the volcano has no name so they call it Cumbre Vieja because it’s the area where it happened.

The volcano started in September 2021 and so far it is the longest volcano eruption ever recorded in the Canary Islands. So far it’s had more than 87 days erupting. The day before the eruption started all the animals were quiet and more then 14 earthquakes happened that day.

Authorities were able to evacuate all the people surrounding the volcano which could cause damage to their homes. Family’s only had minutes to take few belongings and leave straight away. More than 3,000 buildings got damaged or burned down. The lava has buried homes, roads, banana plantations and more. Not only the lava is causing damage the ashes of the volcano are covering a large area of the island burying homes and businesses.

People who lost their homes lost everything and

the Spanish government help hasn’t arrived. So I’m doing this short video to spread awareness and raise funds for the families affected.
