This Go Fund Me has been created to raise funds in support for the Erdmann Family. As close friends of the Erdmann’s, we recognize their state of need and desperation for assistance during these tough times they are facing emotionally and financially. Please take the time to read this message.
Kevin and Rose Erdmann have three beautiful daughters, Kaylee (11), Carissa (17) and Faythe (22). This family has been faced with a tremendous amount of financial burden throughout their ongoing battle with Kevin’s health and wellbeing. Kevin is currently hospitalized at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah, WI. Unfortunately, Kevin’s kidneys are functioning at an extreme low of 15%, he has been put on a kidney transplant list. In order to understand the weight of the medical and financial burden this family faces, we will walk you through a brief description of Kevin’s medical history:
● At 2 years old, Kevin experienced a spleen removal as a result of a hereditary condition called Spherocytosis. His spleen could not properly filter red blood cells due to the cells’ shape and stiffness, leading to an enlarged and harmful spleen.
● Kevin has also been diagnosed with:
○ Short Bowel Disease, a malabsorption disorder caused by a lack of functional small intestine.
○ Ankylosing Spondylitis, an inflammatory arthritis affecting the spine and large joints.
○ Rheumatoid Arthritis, where the body's immune system attacks its own tissue, including joints. In severe cases, it attacks internal organs.
● In February 2004, Kevin was diagnosed with a severe case of Polycystic Kidney, a disease genetically inherited from his Father. Roughly 50 cysts were removed from Kevin’s kidneys by a large incision across his abdomen. As a result of this surgery, nearly all muscle in Kevin’s abdomen had been rendered extremely weak and mostly absent, making it difficult for proper healing. Pieces of medical meshing were inserted into his abdomen to replace what should be muscle, and allow for proper healing to occur. This lack of muscle, large amounts of scar
tissue and meshing made future surgeries on Kevin much more complex.
● Kevin had three additional surgeries in September 2004, February 2005 and September 2005 to repair hernias that had developed in his intestinal tract.
● It is worth mentioning in this timeline of events, that in 2006, Kevin’s Father was in need of a kidney transplant due to his medical issues with Polycystic Kidneys. Rose selflessly donated her kidney to Kevin’s Father to save his life.
● March 2007 brought further hardship as Kevin was hospitalized for a blocked bowel. The original hospital he was taken to denied services to him due to the complexity of his health. Marshfield Hospital was able to aid Kevin by way of surgery to repair this issue.
● November 2007 is when Kevin met with Dr. Offerd, after a second blocked bowel issue had risen. Dr. Offerd performed another surgery on Kevin, inserting a new 18”x 24” unit of meshing across his whole abdomen, an action that was completed because he had absolutely no muscle left. Dr. Offerd had taken it upon himself to fully investigate Kevin’s intestinal space to perfect all loose ends in regards to the meshing and scar tissue entanglement in Kevin’s abdomen.
● In April 2016, Kevin was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. This is a chronic inflammatory bowel condition that affects the lining of the digestive tract and has many unpleasant symptoms. Proceeding this diagnosis, all of Kevin’s small intestines were removed due to them being in an abnormal state. Kevin had a complete bowel reconstruction during this time as well.
● This past October Kevin was hospitalized yet again for discharging large amounts of blood in his urine. Blood cultures were collected, antibiotics were issued but no specific cause for these complications was identified. Kevin was released from the hospital under watch for his continuing blood loss.
● This past November, Kevin’s father passed away. With the loss of a loved one comes the weight of sadness and heartbreak, a toll on Kevin that lead to dehydration and further health complications. An existing internal cyst burst that caused internal bleeding and immense pain. Kevin was med-flighted to the Theda Clark ICU for immediate medical attention, and it was discovered that he had suffered a small heart attack during the mix. He is currently being monitored for his blood loss and kidney function.
Considering the complexity of Kevin’s medical issues and his medical history, the journey to stabilization and wellbeing will be long and stressful. This family is suffering emotionally as they witness Kevin’s struggle and cannot visit him when he is hospitalized. They have a long financially burdensome road ahead as Kevin’s medical issues will require frequent medical care. This family needs relief. We are asking you to join us as an act of kindness to relieve some burden on this family by sharing this post. The beauty of Facebook is in the magic that happens when generous, caring people spread the word. We encourage family, friends, members of the community in which the Erdmann’s belong to, colleagues, and even strangers to SHARE SOME LOVE and help a very down to earth, hardworking family.
