Help the Elliot’s find a new home

In the early morning of Tuesday, December 15,
2020, Shanna and Joshua Elliot woke up to a
terrible flood which consisted of sewage
water covering the entire kitchen, bedroom,
the kids bedroom, the hallway, and the
laundry room. Their  carpets and floors were
completely submerged in at least 3 inches of
this which had come from the toilet during
the hours they had been asleep, midnight
until 6:30am. They lost over $8000 in
furniture, electronics, personal items
including daily needs, dry food, diapers, and so much more. Initially thinking  they could
remain in their home they offered to recarpet the apartment at their own expense but the
landlord wanted no part and insisted the
carpets that he installed 9 years before were
of the best quality and sufficient. The
apartment, belongings and carpet have been
completely destroyed and the only way to
save it, or anything at all is to replace the
carpets. The landlord, though liable and
despite numerous attempts to engage him in
the matter including threatening of legal
action  against him, is denying the family any
assistance in dealing with this issue. They then paid for somebody to wet vac, sanitize and
deodorize  the carpet. They bought multiple
dehumidifiers to help with the damp carpets
that remained and still remain a little bit damp. The fact remains, the carpets are completely destroyed and there remains a serious health hazard. Mold has grown on various items, furniture had to be thrown away because it could
not be saved, they are living out of boxes and
bins because they cannot afford to purchase
new furniture.
There is no way to use the closets for storage as they are damp and moldy. There is no way
to remain in  the apartment  and remain
safe and healthy. They are hunting for a new
residence which is not easy with the current
climate but they are determined to keep their
children safe. As anyone who has moved knows
the cost of moving, the boxes and other items
needed, a U-haul and storage unit to keep their
belongings in. Home Depot wet vac rental after having already paid someone do the carpets
because the damage was too severe for one
cleaning and so much more has lead to financial debt.
They gave their three children, ages six, five
and two, the best Christmas that they could,
but immediately had to pack up everything
they had gotten for Christmas in bins and put
into the storage unit.
Joshua served 6 years in military, Deployed stateside 3 times working liaison operations
with local and federal law enforcement
agencies and then again for Operation Iraqi
Freedom 04-05. After sustaining multiple
injuries and traumas he decided to not reenlist and begin a career back in the civilian world.
After getting out of the army he started a
career in hospitality which he was able to do
for the last 14 years. When the pandemic hit
he lost his job as the entire industry took a
massive hit.
After 6-7 months of being out of work he was
offered a position in the Dental Technology
Field and though he is working again he has
taken a 45% pay cut and is barely able to make
ends meet. This recent tragedy is threatening to put their family in the street. Anything you can
give will be greatly appreciated. The
money will help replace electronics, clothes
and furniture and also. cover expenses they
have already gone into debt to pay as well as
first and last months rent including security
deposit on a new home. If you are unable to
help monetarily you can help by sharing this
GoFundMe post on your page and/or email to
your friends and family. The Elliot’s thank you
in advance  for helping them provide a safe a
and healthy environment for their family
