$802K Crypto Scam Loss: Help Jerry & Mindy Dunaway Rebuild

On June 6, 2025, retired grandparents Jerry and Mindy Dunaway fell victim to a crypto investment scam that cleaned out their livelihood. As a result, they lost a staggering $802,000. We're humbly asking for your help in restoring their lives, and we're personally writing this plea as their sons.

Background:

Jerry is a US Navy Veteran who later worked in sales most of his life, and his wife of nearly 50 years, Mindy, is a part-time pen/ink illustrator and cancer survivor. They are proud and loving parents and grandparents well into their retirement.

In early 2025, our father (Jerry Dunaway) was contacted by a sophisticated crypto scammer that appeared like a legitimate investors group. We live in an age where social media and AI can bend reality. The scam was very professional.

The scammer presented Jerry with a lucrative investment in fine detail, until Jerry and Mindy "bet the farm," investing their life savings, stocks, and even borrowing. When family members dug deeper, it became obvious that our parents had fallen victim to a scam. By then, it was too late.

We both want our parents to retire with dignity.

The Reality of the Situation:

Jerry and Mindy have lost their life's work. Nearly everything. In an instant. Gone. Nothing remains but guilt, shame, and shock. We hope to keep them from destitution while they cope in the aftermath.

As the next several weeks unfold, we are both working to help them navigate this financial crisis and address their living circumstances. At this point, we are still assessing how this will impact their day-to-day life, but we are asking anyone willing to donate as little or as much as you can to help Mindy and Jerry through this devastating situation.

Why does this matter to you?

You see it everywhere. For all of you who hate to see the ruthless prosper at the expense of honest people, we ask you to strike a blow for goodness and show that together that we're kinder than predators are cruel.

The long-term goal is to recoup roughly 25% (200k) of the total loss to put them on stable footing. All donations will go directly to Mindy and Jerry Dunaway. Any donations that exceed the goal will be donated to a related nonprofit to help other victims of crypto scams.

The case has been filed with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) and Georgia Gwinnett County Police Department.
