Hi, my name is Taya Dixson and I’m a 21-year-old senior at Michigan State University, graduating May 2026. I am one of five siblings in my family who will all be in college this Fall 2025. Yes—FIVE. All at once.

We’ve worked hard, applied for scholarships, taken out loans, and pitched in every way possible. But despite all of that, the combined expected family contribution for us is nearly $110,000. We appealed at each of our schools, but were denied. Our parents—both hard-working, middle-class people—have co-signed as many loans as they possibly can. We’ve knocked on every door. We’re tapped out.

Still, we believe in finishing what we’ve started. We believe that God opened these doors, and we are determined to walk through them.

A little about us:

• We are 3 Spartans at Michigan State, 1 Eagle at Eastern Michigan, and 1 Bronco at Western Michigan—all in-state schools to save costs.

• Some of us started at community college to lessen the burden.

• We work, we contribute, and we sacrifice. I personally used my entire summer internship paycheck just to pay rent back at school.

• We’ve lived simply. No yearly vacations, no new cars, no lavish life. In fact, my twin and I are the only ones with a car—and that’s because we saved up and bought one together.

• Our family has weathered job losses, downsizing, and financial struggles. Today, the seven of us live in a 3-bedroom rental bungalow. But we are happy, healthy, loved, and determined.

We’re not asking for a handout—we’re asking for a hand up. Every dollar raised will go directly to tuition and room & board. Every share brings us closer to reaching those 11,000 hearts.
