Help the Devito’s get Remus through surgery

As many of you know Lindsey and Anthony have had a tough couple of years.  Through it all Remus has been a source of comfort and stability to them both.

So, why are we here? Let me explain.

Remus is Lindsey and Anthony’s 9 year old German shepherd. At the beginning of November, they noticed his front left paw was swollen and he developed a limp. He has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma which is an aggressive bone cancer mostly found in older large breed dogs. A tumor develops inside the bone and as it grows, destroying the bone from the inside out, it becomes increasingly painful. The typical treatment for osteosarcoma is amputation and chemotherapy. The median survival rate for dogs not treated with amputation and chemo is 3-6 months.

Remus is scheduled to have his leg amputated on November 30th.  Due to his size, both amputation and chemo are very expensive. They do not have pet insurance so it will be all out of pocket. They are looking at over 10,000 in vet bills including the amputation and 4 rounds of chemo following the surgery.

The Devito’s are two of the most kind, gentle and loyal humans you will ever meet.  This is evident in the way they have raised their sweet boy, Remus to exude the same qualities.  Let’s help Remus enjoy many more years frolicking on the beach and making silly faces on the couch!

We will continue to keep you updated on Remus’ progress.
