Help the DeLancey family through our medical crisis
Our young family is in dire need of assistance due to serious medical issues. Over the last few months Phil has shown signs of being ill. At the beginning of April, while at work, it became apparent that he needed to go to the emergency room. While at High Point Regional it was determined that his liver was failing and he would need to be transferred to a hospital with liver specialists.
On April 6, Phil was transferred to Duke University Hospital where it was determined that he needed a liver transplant. Unfortunately, our insurance would not cover the transplant or other costs including medication and recovery. On April 17 he was discharged from the hospital and came home. After returning home, we followed the doctor's instructions for medication and diet to try and give him the best possible outcome. Phil attempted to go back to work while I focused on finding insurance that would cover the transplant. Very quickly, we realized he was too sick to continue working and we began the process of applying for disability and medicaid. We have received SNAP benefits for groceries but disability will be a longer process, meaning that we have zero income to cover rent, utilities, gas, hospital parking, and general expenses that families incur.
Phil's health continued to decline and on May 20th he was readmitted to Duke Hospital which is where we are now. With further testing and working with Medicaid, Phil was put on the transplant list on May 28.
I have been lucky enough to stay home and raise our twins for the last 4 years while Phil has been our breadwinner. I am now adding the role of primary caretaker for Phil, to my role of mommy to our twin preschoolers, as we face these seemingly insurmountable health challenges. Phil will be out of work while we navigate getting him through the transplant process and his recovery. Any of you who knows Phil, is aware of how much he hates the idea of asking for help and especially asking for money but this has been an unexpected blow to our little family. This is a very scary time for all of us and we need all of the help we can get while we navigate through these dire straits.
Thank You!
