Help The DeGolyer Family

Donation protected
This is a gofundme page to aid the DeGolyer family with sudden and unexpected medical bills.

Kyle was first diagnosed with ITP, an auto immune disease, in 2007.  After a year of treatment the disease went into remission.

In the time since Kyle has met, fallen in love, and married his wife Jen.  They established themselves within  Charleston’s food and beverage community as two of the most dependable, hospitable, and personable people you could ever hope to work alongside or be assisted by.  They purchased a home on Johns Island in 2015.  The happy couple became a family when they gave birth to their adorable son, Jai, in 2017.  Both Kyle and Jen continue to work full time in the service industry and spend the majority of their free time playing with Jai, gardening around the house, and exercising (mostly Jen).

Three weeks ago (May 20th 2019) Kyle’s ITP returned in what seemed like an overnight timespan.  Heading out of the house to do some yard work Kyle noticed multiple dark blotches all over his legs and arms, a symptom he was all too familiar with and hoped to never see again.
Upon checking into the hospital he learned his platelet count was critically low and that the ITP had returned with a vengeance.  This initial visit, which included platelet and steroid injections, antibody transfusion, and a bone marrow stimulant medication totaled $45,000.  After insurance Kyle is responsible for $14000.

Kyle’s cell counts returned to normal and he returned to work in just a few days.  In less than two weeks his platelets dropped again, way sooner than doctors anticipated, and he has returned to the hospital.  The same procedures and medications he received on his initial visit are being repeated.
The next step is a surgery to remove Kyle’s spleen, an operation that is said to be 70% successful in correcting ITP.

Kyle has missed quite a bit of work since the illness returned and with a rushed surgery on the horizon he’s going to miss a considerable amount more.  The medical expenses have compounded quite quickly, and will continue until Kyle’s ITP is either fixed through surgery or improved to a manageable illness.

This gofundme has been formed by a group of Kyle’s close friends and coworkers to aid him and his family during this financially stressful and medically concerning ordeal.

We and the DeGolyer family would like to thank everyone for their time, care, thoughts, and prayers.
