Five years ago, Danyia's life changed when she became allergic to almost everything (water, air, even food). For two years they went from Doctor to Docter and finally found Dr. Afrin, a cancer specialist at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Afrin diagnosed Danyia with Mast cell/EDS disease. Mast cells are present in most tissues throughout the human body, especially the connective tissues. They are part of the allergic response system designed to protect us. Danyia has an abnormally high amount of mast cells in her body. When the mast cell releases its histamine, it can cause symptoms in her body such as hives, swelling, flushing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, low blood pressure, fainting, heart palpitations, wheezing, red eyes, itching and or nasal congestion.
For the next few years, her life became trial and error trying to figure out what her triggers were and how to stabilize her reactions. She found herself near death many times. Since being diagnosed, both children have developed Mast cell and EDS. Lately, Danyia and her son Riley's health issues have increased leaving both of them unable to lift, turn their neck, sit properly and lay down without support. It has been extra challenging to take care of Riley, who already has a disability of his own and is unable to communicate properly. Much of their home and life responsibilities have been put on the shoulders of Danyia's husband Kevin and their younger son Connor.
Due to unknown reactions, they have moved from house to house and from city to city and have not been very successful at finding an area that doesn't cause a reaction.
In March, they found an area in Colorado that calmed down their Mast Cells and gave them a taste of "normal". They would love to pursue the opportunity of living in Colorado for the chance that they could finally find some relief after these five years of suffering and in hopes that Danyia and Riley's health would stabilize.
This family needs a breakthrough and we have an opportunity to gather around them, to be the hands and feet of God towards them and support them while the family walks their journey of healing.
In order to proceed in moving to Colorado, Kevin will need to walk away from his job in Minnesota. The family will need financial assistance to help with the income that he would have been receiving at his job in MN until he finds work in Colorado. Finances will also go to things they need to keep life running (groceries, bills, water).
