Linkin Davis is an exceptional young man with talent on the BMX bike. He’s one of the nicest kids you’ll ever meet.
On a normal Tuesday night at a regular BMX coaching session, Linkin had an unfortunate crash with an unbelievable list of injuries. What seemed to be just a simple flip over the handlebars, Linkin fell heavily and awkwardly on the left side of his body, he was lucky to be wearing a full-face helmet, and did not sustain any brain or neck issues, but sadly, did not escape a staggering list of injuries. Linkin was rushed to hospital with 9 fractured ribs and a punctured lung, 3 back fractures including his T12 that required surgery to insert a plate and screws, a broken collarbone and a fractured scapula.
Linkin's parents have been on a single wage since earlier this year when Linkin's Father John broke his wrist that required surgery. He is still undergoing rehab for his own injury and has not been able to work as a truck driver since.
Each day the family wait to hear if Linkin will be transferred to a hospital closer to home. The family are travelling over 150km each day, with substantial fuel costs, plus the carparking fees for the hospital visits which are over 8 hours a day.
Once Linkin is released from hospital, the family will need to assist Linkin while he adjusts to life in a back brace for the next 6-8weeks before his rehab can slowly commence. This will include full time care for Linkin, as well as medical costs for the rehabilitation, and sports psychology/counselling appointments to help him overcome any fears or anxieties that may result in this incident and recovery process.
With the cost of living at a record high, the medical bills, rehab and all on a single wage, we would like to help relieve some pressure from this family by seeing if we can come together as a BMX community and beyond, to show that we are there for others when they need a little extra help.
