The David’s need our help!

*UPDATE* 03/02/24

Katie has moved to a rehab centre following bilateral below knee amputations and partial amputation of her left hand. Just after Christmas Katie was found to have melanomas on her face. She has had these excised and is awaiting the outcome of what this means going forward.

Yesterday, their house was burgled and everything taken.

Katie and Mark have remarkably remained positive through this journey, but are now at their wits end having lost everything and a long road to recovery ahead of them.

A new plea for support for this incredible couple who have dealt with everything in such an incredible way, but need our help!

My name is Angela and I’ve decided to set this page up to try and support a good colleague and friend.

I have known Katie for over 9 years. I was lucky enough to be invited to her wedding and have seen her tenacity in fighting the obstacles placed in her way.

Unfortunately, over 5 weeks ago Katie was admitted to ITU at the LRI where she was placed on ventilation, dialysis and a do not resuscitate order put in place. The doctors were not sure she would survive whatever it was that was making her so very sick.

True to form, Katie slowly started to improve and a few weeks later was up and out of bed, all tubes and pipes removed! We hoped that this would be the end of her challenge, but unfortunately there was more bad news to come.

Katie has suffered some significant effects from the sepsis which took hold of her body and is imminently about to undergo bilateral leg amputations. Her left hand is still being reviewed and she will require some extensive surgery to try to save it.

Katie remains a strong and brave woman, ready for the fight ahead.

Her husband, Mark has been by her side every single step of the way, spending every single day at her side since her admission to hospital.

Katie and Mark have a very long and difficult road ahead of them. Mark has been unable to work whilst he supports Katie through her recovery, meaning that his pay is severely affected. Unfortunately, they still have bills to pay and will likely need to adapt their home, cars and lifestyle to meet Katie’s needs following her discharge from hospital.

*update* Katie had her bilateral leg amputation on Tuesday 31 October. She remains in good spirits and has started her physio.

Given the significant challenges both Katie and Mark are facing, I am hoping that we can pull together to raise some money for them to use towards their bills and ensuring that all aspects of their lives are adapted to make things as easy as possible for Katie to mobilise and settle into a new way of living. She is incredibly brave, incredibly resilient and her tenacity is sure to keep her going through the inevitable ups and downs they will both face together.

Thank you for your support for this couple who absolutely deserve our help!
