Help the Czubaj Family

I’m starting this page in hopes to help my Uncle and my Aunt during this difficult
time. On October 23rd, 2020 , my Uncle suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. He had
an aneurysm burst and start bleeding into his brain.  He is the sole provider for
his household and one of the hardest workers I know.  There is a long road of
uncertainity ahead of him and the last thing I want is for my Aunt to carry the burden and worry of bills.                          I have attached the first journal entry my cousin wrote about my  Uncles condition and link to her caringbridge         page that she has  constantly been updating. Please continue to pray for him and our family.

Thank you,
       Samantha

On October 23rd, my dad suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. He had an aneurysm burst and started bleeding into his brain. He was sent to Annapolis Beaumont due to its close proximity to their house and quickly transferred to Royal Oak Beaumont for a higher level of care. There he got an external ventricular device or EVD placed and went for an angiogram to try to coil the vessel to stop the bleeding. However due to the size of the vessel and location, coiling was not an optimal solution. He then was transferred to St. Joes of Pontiac to have the “Web Device” placed by Dr. Xavier. This device is new in the US and has only been around 2-3 years. Dr. Xavier is the top neurologist in the state when it comes to the Web Device. The device was placed successfully the doctor described it to me as the vessel was leaking like a “fire hydrant” and after the device is now leaking like a faucet. Over time, the vessel will heal around the device and the hope is that it will stop bleeding. The fight is no where near over and he is not out of the woods. Unfortunately he has other aneurysms as well but those will have to wait until months down the road. Now my dads body has to rest and heal. They are giving him medicines to reduce the swelling in his brain and keep him sedated. It’s very important that he stays very still so that he does not increase his inter-cranial pressure (ICP) or pressure in his brain. Therefore he is still on a ventilator, still has the drain in his brain and is sedated. He is able to breathe on his own but with sedation they are giving him, they have to keep him on the ventilator prophylactically in case something happens or the sedation effects his ability to breathe on his own. His body will reabsorb the blood in his brain, but it takes time and it was a large bleed. This is a day to day process and they won’t be all good or bad. He is at risk to bleed again, and at risk for his vessels to spasm causing temporary stroke like symptoms. It is possible for him to make a full recovery but we won’t know much in terms of his mental status until he is not sedated anymore. Dr. Xavier seemed hopeful that the stroke like symptoms we seen so far (speaking jumbled, facial droop, confusion) were a result of the bleeding/pressure in his brain and as that heals that he will regain normal function. However no one knows how things will go in the coming days or how is body will react so we have to take it day by day. For now he seems to be resting very comfortable and in good hands. He moves spontaneously and his ventilator settings are minimal. Unfortunately the hospital only allows one visitor per day (mostly bc of covid) so that has been a struggle. We want everyone to see him but it’s important he rests. Please keep him and our family in your prayers during this difficult time. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/raymondczubaj
