Help the Curry Family After Jeanie's Passing

Donation protected
My name is Ellen Burnette, and I’ve known Dwayne Curry for over 40 years through our shared involvement in the Baptist Student Union at the University of Montevallo in the 1980s. In recent years, we reconnected and have become close friends. I came to know and appreciate Jeanie through that renewed friendship with Dwayne. I started this fundraiser with Dwayne’s knowledge and blessing. All donations are set to transfer directly into his bank account to support him and their children during this incredibly difficult time.

On Sunday, July 20, 2025, our dear friend Jeanie Curry passed away due to a pulmonary embolism. She and her husband, Dwayne, were in Alabama attending a BSU Reunion at the University of Montevallo and spending time with nearby friends and family when her passing came suddenly and without warning.

Earlier this month, Jeanie and Dwayne had celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary, a testament to a beautiful partnership rooted in faith, love, and perseverance. Her passing has left Dwayne, their 28-year-old son Keegan, and 18-year-old daughter Kia devastated.

Jeanie was deeply loved and widely cherished. A retired teacher and, most recently, a beloved children’s programmer at the public library, she nurtured young minds with books, stories, and compassion. A fierce supporter of libraries and literacy, Jeanie believed in the power of knowledge, community, and love. She truly lived out the words of Micah 6:8: “to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God,” and Mark 12:30–31, which calls us to love God and love our neighbors. These weren’t just verses she admired. They shaped the way she lived, how she treated others, and how deeply she loved her family.

If you know Dwayne, then you know that he is a blessing to so many. Despite his disability, he consistently reaches out to others with prayer, encouragement, and friendship. In earlier years, Dwayne selflessly cared for his aging parents—an act of love that took a deep toll on him physically and financially. Until now, Jeanie had remained the primary provider and caregiver for their family.

We are rallying around Dwayne, Keegan, and Kia now to support them during this heartbreaking time. In addition to profound grief, they are facing funeral expenses and other urgent needs.

Your gift, no matter the size, will ease that burden and allow them the space to grieve, rest, and begin to heal. And please consider sharing this page with others who may want to help.

Thank you for supporting the Curry family. Your love, prayers, and generosity mean more than words can express.
